Great Ocean Road

[mileage: 13793 km]I found 2 girls in Adelaide who needed a lift to Melbourne. After 1 Israeli, 2 Germans and 1 French guy I decided to take Madoka and Alida with me. I choose them because both had enough time and no dates when they had to be in Melbourne or wherever. Madoka is a student from Japan and Alida came from Berlin but her parents are Afghani background. The first day we drove to MT. Gambier where I organized a host for us 3. This place was really beautiful. Surrounded by small hills, sheep and cow cattle's I encased this place in my heard from the first moment. We just stayed there one night, what a shame! Anyway next day we visited some gardens, Vulcan holes and the blue lake. Later we went into the Princess Cave. We drove along the coast through a lot of forests and I just found a small drab sign along the road with “lake”. Thought maybe thats something interesting so I drove this 5 km unsealed road with very scenic surroundings but we couldn't find the lake. (maybe its too dry) Anyway we could see the ocean in a far distance and thought lets go for a swim. We moved on till it wasn't possible anymore because of a big sand dune. We left the car and walked into ocean direction but realized that it was too far away. Instead of swimming we took some great pictures from this untouched sand dunes. We just drove on along the road and stayed over night in a forest. Next day we drove through Port Fairy, Warrnambool and Port Campbell till the beginning of the Great Ocean Road. The Great Ocean Road is a very twisty and in my opinion quite dangerous road for oversea drivers. Sometimes before 180 degree turns there is no sign no speed limit nothing!! You have to guess what around the next corner. The Australian government is wondering why people are dying but maybe they just could put on more signs! We drove to almost all lookouts and camped near the 12 Apostle to look the sunset which was really nice but too touristy. On the 3rd day we decided to go more inland and look for some great waterfalls. We found some very nice ones with lush rain forest. Back on the Great Ocean Road we drove to Anglesea where we stayed in a Caravan Park near the beach. Next morning we drove to Melbourne with some stops in Geelong.
